Water Gardening
Center Opens!

Janesville, WI June 1,2004 –Pond Professors, Inc. Announces the opening of their new Water Gardening Hobby Center located at 3032 McCormick Dr. in Janesville. Kim and Scott Story of Pond Professors, Inc. opened the center due to the demand from their customers for a place to get creditable information and quality products. Growing from their home office in Johnstown Center the new location offers a variety of products that they were unable to offer due to lack of space. The new center is bright and open with fish care products, aquatic plants, display ponds in the front yard, fish and do it yourself kits along with pond care products. Pond Professors, Inc. has donated space in the center to the local pond club and is stocking educational books and videos for the pond lover. With a setting of being in your own backyard customers can enjoy seating at the patio furniture, listening to the water or watching an educational video. Along with all the above listed items you will find special products brought in for that disconcerting pond builder, cedar driftwood from the Blue Ridge houses along with new products arriving on a regular basis. Many of the items are supplied by local crafters, and offered to accent your pond or water garden. This center is for the education of the public about the joy of owning a water garden. Whether you purchase a pond from our company or another company, you will find helpful information and a staff willing to assist in your project and products you can trust to make your project more enjoyable. Up and coming for the Pond Professors, Inc. will be a “Build a Pond Day” hosted June 19th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a building team representing Aquascape Designs on hand to educate the public on water garden construction. Pond Professors, Inc. will be working with attendees to construct a new water feature in the front lawn of the center. An 11’ x 16’ pond will be built with an attached stream approximately 10’ in length. Plantings of all aquatic plants offered at the center and fish will find a home in the new feature. The public is invited to watch, dig and toss rocks with our crew to learn how to build their own pond. We will also be holding our Grand Opening Event corresponding with our “Build A Pond Day”. All of our fish and plants will be on sale on June 19th .

A message from Pond Professors, Inc.

Dear Pond Loving Friends,
As you know it’s that time of year again. Spring is springing, buds are blooming, birds are singing, squirrels are back in business, and your pond will be bursting out all over with multitudes of life forms within days… If not hours! And, once again, there will be lots of things going on here at Pond Professors, Inc. over this summer, so have a look at the enclosed items, and watch for dates of events on the website. Be sure and mark them on your calendar for the Parade of Ponds and the club meetings.

Look for our work at Disney!

At the end of March, Pond Professors, Inc. flew to Orlando, Florida, to build at Disney World. Scott was asked by Aquascape Designs to help build a water feature at Epcot Center for the International Flower and Garden show being held there from April 16, 2004 to June 16, 2004. Along with Aquascape Designs and several other Certified Aquascape Contractors, Scott spent three grueling nights converting a seating area into a 30 foot by 30 foot pond with a 20 foot waterfall. This was a great honor for Pond Professors, Inc.

Renowned Koi Vet Hosts Certified Contractor
Board Meeting

April 28-May 2, 2004, Blue Ridge, GA- Dr. Erik Johnson based out of Atlanta, Georgia, hosted the Certified Contractor Board members meeting at his research lab for Aquascape Designs. Scott Story, President of Pond Professors attended this 3-day conference as the representative of the North Central region. Story was appointed to the board to represent the states of Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.
Day One of this conference was to set guidelines for potential water garden contractors looking to be part of the certification program with Aquascape Designs. Pond Professors is directly involved with creating the guidelines and procedures for this program and working hand in hand with corporate officers of Aquascape Designs in marketing of the program both to the consumers and contractors.
Day two of the conference was an educational conference on pond fish health and care. Presented by Dr. Johnson, the attendees were instructed on diagnosis of disease, fish care, general health issues along with reproduction, product information for the consumer. During this training seminar the class was instructed on the use of a microscope to determine health issues in fish, testing and diagnosis in fish available in a retail setting, and seasonal health issues for pond owners. The class learned to sedate fish, how to perform minor surgery and revive them.
Day three was spent fertilizing items for the CAC program, gathering notes to use in helping our customers with their fish health and touring the research lab.
Pond Professors, Inc. staff left the conference with a stronger knowledge of fish diseases, how to detect the basic health issues in Koi and a better understanding of Koi Herpes virus. Along with having input in the Certified Contractor Program, with the new knowledge Pond Professors gained at the conference we will be able to offer healthy fish to our customers that they can trust based on our education that we continue to gather.

Local Pond Club Chapter Hosts Fish Doctor Seminar

Janesville, WI May 27,2004—W.S.C.A.P.E.S (Wisconsin South Central Area Pond EnthusiastS) hosted Dr. Myron Kebus,M.S.,D.V.M., at Pond Professors Water Gardening Hobby Center in Janesville , Thursday May 27th at 6:30 p.m. With over 30 in attendance the seminar lasted over two hours with information on fish health, diseases, seasonal care of koi and goldfish, breeding and spawning along with general pond design for fish health. A slide show was presented along with informational handouts for all to use in their future fish care.
Dr. Myron Kebus,M.S.,D.V.M., is a nationally recognized fish care expert who combines extensive, experience in rearing and breeding koi and with his innovative style of veterinary medicine. Dr. Kebus also shared with us some interesting anecdotes about how a simple change of water for the fish, can make every thing better than giving the fish antibiotics. He also told us of some symptoms to look out for regarding good fish health. Like if the fish are jumping out of the water a lot, it could mean there are a lot of parasites irritating the fish. In fact, Dr. Kebus was the first veterinarian in the United States to correctly identify the koi herpes virus, a deadly koi disease that has taken the koi world by storm.
W.S.C.A.P.E.S will be hosting additional educational seminars with experts in the fields of aquatic plants, pond construction, landscaping around your pond and Dr. Kebus will be returning this summer to teach about pond water testing along with fish care. These seminars will all be hosted at the club’s headquarters within Pond Professors Water Garden Center at 3032 McCormick Drive on Janesville’s north side.
Wisconsin South Central Area Pond EnthusiastS is a club that is open to all who have an interest in water gardening, whether you have a pond or just planning for one in the future. All pond owners are welcome to join the club regardless of who installed the water feature or location. Currently members are from Rock, Walworth and surrounding counties.
